2016

  • October 11th, 12th, and 13th: International Day of the Girl events at local college campuses, Minnesota State University - Moorhead, Concordia, and North Dakota State University. We showed our 2016 video and a clip from the documentary Girl Rising to demonstrate the importance of educating girls around the world. The students who attended also wrote letters and made bracelets for our ASAH girls.
  • April 30th: ASAH held its annual event at the Radisson Hotel in Fargo. The theme was "Stronger Than Ever." ASAH Co-Founder and Lost Boy Joseph Akol Makeer, his sister Ajah Makeer Galuak, videographer Jessica Wunderlich, ASAH President Deb Dawson and Vice President Kevin Brooks shared recent updates and answered questions from the audience. The event raised $16,903 to support ASAH's mission.
  • January-March: Deb took her longest trip yet to Uganda.  
  • January: New sanitation system is Installed at ASAH School.  The school now has nine showers and nine toilets, as well as a 10,000 L water tank on the ground, and an elevated 2,000 L water tank, and a rainwater collection system.
  • January 18: ASAH VP Kevin Brooks received the Human Relations Adult Award for his work as "an advocate for human rights, dignity and people from many different backgrounds" through organizations like African Soul, American HeartGiving+Learning, and New American Consortium for Wellness and Empowerment

2015

  • April 25,"The Good Lie" Event: ASAH hosted two screenings of the film, "The Good Lie" at the Fargo Theater.  Before each screening there was  a meet & greet at Studio 222 with actress Kuoth Wiel, ASAH board members, and ASAH Ugandan director Ajah Makeer Galuak.
  • Added 7 new students

2014

  • November: Deb hosts a table at the annual Pangea festival at the Hjemkomst Center, Moorhead, MN
  • June: Deb and Paul Fields visit the new ASAH school in Moyo, Uganda
  • May 17, Bismarck Luncheon: ASAH President Deb Dawson and Vice President Kevin Brooks spoke at a  luncheon at the Bismark Radisson.  They discussed the ongoing civil unrest in South Sudan and ASAH's response. 
  • May, ASAH Team "Up and Running Again" raised over $21,000 towards getting ASAH up and running in Uganda.
  • March 22, 5th Annual "Get Your Panties in a Bunch"Event at the Fargo Radisson.
  • March: 29 of 34 girls are relocated to ASAH's new location in Moyo, Uganda.
  • February: Civil unrest causes forced evacuation of ASAH school in Duk Payuel, South Sudan. 
  • February: Deb visits South Sudan

2013

  • December: Civil war breaks out in South Sudan
  • November 9: Deb Dawson received the ND Humanitarian Award at the Robert Feder Award Dinner at the Fargo Holiday Inn. 
  • September: ASAH supporters raise over $50,000 for Deb’s 60th birthday
  • May 17–June 11: Deb Dawson travels to ASAH School
  • May 17–May 27: Keiko and Rygo Foss, Michele Brandt, and Vika Robinson accompany Deb to ASAH School.
  • May: ASAH Team "Running on Sunshine" raised over $10,000 for solar power at the compound in South Sudan.
  • April 20: 3rd Annual “Get Your Panties in a Bunch Lunch” in Bismarck, 12–1:30 pm. Radisson Hotel. 
  • March 2: "Get Your Panties in a Bunch Lunch" in Grand Forks, ND.
  • February 16: 4th Annual "Get Your Panties in a Bunch, Lunch"12–1:30 - Ramada Plaza Suites, Fargo.
  • February: Deb traveled to meet with the students in our Kenya program - eight Sudanese students from Kakuma refugee camp that ASAH has supported in boarding schools in Kenya since 2008.

2012

  • December 29, 2012–February 8, 2013 - Deb Dawson and Jean Wood travel to visit Sudanese students in Kenya and work with the girls and staff at ASAH School for Orphaned Girls in Duk Payuel, South Sudan.
  • December 4, 2012–December 19, 2012 - Board member Ron Saeger travels to Kenya to spend time with our Kenya Kids.
  • October 28: "Faces of South Sudan" Photo Exhibition by Deb Dawson at St. Croix Galleries of ArtReach St. Croix, Stillwater, MN.  
  • October 13–14:Deb Dawson traveled to speak St. Paul’s United Church in Virden
  • October 11: ASAH recognized the International Day of the Girl with students at Carl Ben Eielson School in Fargo
  • October 4: Deb spoke to Cultural Diversity Class at Valley City State University.
  • September 11: Deb Dawson speaks at the Faith, Reason and World Affairs Symposium, Concordia College, Moorhead, MN.  The theme was, "Beyond Genocide: Learning to Help and Hope".
  • April 3 and 4: Deb Dawson presents at Building Bridges Conference - The Refugee Journey
  • May 31 to June 5: Deb Dawson, Kevin Brooks & Betsy Birmingham travel to Iowa
  • June 7 to July 3: Deb Dawson traveled to South Sudan to speak
